|Reviews placed here are based on our experiences with the units described. Faults & advantages of the various models are listed as we have encountered them.|
Our initial impression of this unit was as one with excellent signal holding capabilities & reliability, however time has revealed some flaws in the performance of this unit in some instances, on a regular enough basis to cause us to revise our opinion.
The KTF-200S is a nicely presented unit, in a mid-sized package, with the expected connectivity of composite via SCART connectors plus coax audio. The price is right for budget buyers & in some locations, we are aware of the model performing well in terms of holding signal.
We have experienced locations where we have installed these units & found them pixellating, whereas a test unit of our benchmark STBs have had no problems from the same antenna feed. Whether this is a firmware issue or something else remains to be seen, but it certainly doesn't apply to all of this model, as many of them have no problems at all.
Setup is quite easy & the remote control is a very nice feel with good feedback & wide angle performace, plus a front panel display is easy to read, but without many features.
The Verdict: The Kaon KTF-200S is a fairly bare bones model. The unit is a good size for those with minor space problems. Reliability seems fairly good, however there is definitely a question mark over the performance & signal hold on this model, especially where compared with known working units. Overall, the KTF-200S is a solid unit, but we would ensure the option of returning it to the retailer if the signal does not hold well.
