LG have been going gangbusters in the market, producing fridges, TVs, all sorts of products in a wide variety of market segments. While not all of their products have been top notch, like many manufacturers, for the most part we've not seen a huge amount of trouble with the brand.
Despite some early teething troubles with a picture shift issue, which had the whole image from the unit moved horizontally across the screen, those problems seem to have now been eliminated from the model & those we've installed have produced very good results for their owners.
The LST4100P has all the features you should now be expecting from a high definition unit, such as component video, DVI, RGB, S-Video & composite, so all your bases are covered & you shouldn't be let out in the cold for want of a video format. The display resolution can be changed from the front panel at the press of a button, cycling between various modes up to 1080i.
Auto-scanning is relatively rapid, taking a couple of minutes, the front panel having a very nice signal inficator & it's fairly easy to read the display as well. The unit is a conventional sized component, with minimal venting on top & it doesn't tend to run overly warm.
Thge Verdict: It's hard to really put a finger on any major problems with this model. Those early problems with picture shift were indeed disappointing, but for the most part, this is a nice, stable entry into the high definition market & has proven itself over time. The only downside for us is no ability to reset or delete mis-scanned or poorly performing channels. The signal hold on the model has been fairly good, with excellent performance in almost all except the most fringe areas. As with most set top boxes, they do enjoy a good amount of quality signal. For those looking for a high definition model, this should be on your short list.
